When selecting the panic hardware thre are many considerations that need to be made. You need to determine whether the building has public access or private and the users are aware of exits.
If the panic hardware is is for public access you need to ensure that products from the panic range below are utilised to comply with panic hardware standards.

Types of panic hardware operation

Panic Latch
The Panic Latch is the less secure of the two pieces of hardware used on Public Buildings, as the door is secured only by a single spring bolt on the edge of the door. The door should be labelled with a green “Push Bar To Open” sign on the inside of the door and a white / blue “Fire Escape Keep Clear” sign on the outside of the door.

Single Panic Bolt
The Single Panic Bolt is the more secure of the two pieces of hardware used on Public Buildings. It is two point locking, with the upper rod going into the top of the door frame and the lower rod going into the floor. An Automatic Top Tripper will hold the two rods in the open position when the bar is pushed. This Top Tripper will release the two rods when the door is closed making the door self locking. The door should be labelled with a green “Push Bar To Open” sign on the inside of the door and a white / blue “Fire Escape Keep Clear” sign on the outside of the door.

Touch Bar
Touch Bar panic hardware is operated by pushing the bar in a forward direction only and has a lower projection from the door making them an ideal choice for sports halls and corridor applications.  Touch bars operate a latch as opposed to a bolt and as a consequence offer a smoother and quieter operation than the bolt systems.

Double Door Situations
In the UK there are two types of double door, rebated or plain / flush meeting styles. For rebated doors a panic latch should be fitted to the first opening leaf and a single panic bolt to the second opening leaf. A surface mounting striking plate is required for the panic latch. The ARRONE® panic hardware range provides a combination unit for double door situations which provides all three of the items needed.

For double doors with plain / flush meeting styles use two single panic bolts, one on each door.

Types of emergency exit operation

Push Pad
The Push Pad is the less secure of the two pieces of hardware used on private premises, as the door is secured only by a single spring bolt on the edge of the door. The door should be labelled with a green “Push Pad To Open” sign on the inside of the door and a white / blue “Fire Escape Keep Clear” sign on the outside of the door.

Push Pad Panic Bolt

It is two point locking, with the upper rod going into the top of the door frame and the lower rod going into the floor. An Automatic Top Tripper will hold the two rods in the open position when the bar is pushed. This Top Tripper will release the two rods when the door is closed making the door self locking. The door should be labelled with a green “Push Pad To Open” sign on the inside of the door and a white / blue “Fire Escape Keep Clear” sign on the outside of the door.
