The Panic Latch is the less secure of the two pieces of hardware used on Public Buildings, as the door is secured only by a single spring bolt on the edge of the door. The door should be labelled with a green “Push Bar To Open” sign on the inside of the door and a white / blue “Fire Escape Keep Clear” sign on the outside of the door.
Since April 2003 it has been mandatory for all manufacturers to CE mark exit devices for fire and escape door use. Products within this series are CE marked to EN 1125 and EN 179, under the EC Construction Directive.
