The Push Pad Panic Bolt is the more secure of the two pieces of hardware used on private premises. It is two point locking, with the upper rod going into the top of the door frame and the lower rod going into the floor. An Automatic Top Tripper will hold the two rods in the open position when the bar is pushed. This Top Tripper will release the two rods when the door is closed making the door self locking. The door should be labelled with a green “Push Pad To Open” sign on the inside of the door and a white / blue “Fire Escape Keep Clear” sign on the outside of the door.
Since April 2003 it has been mandatory for all manufacturers to CE mark exit devices for fire and escape door use. Products within this series are CE marked to EN 1125 and EN 179, under the EC Construction Directive.
